Fashion

My best friend Courtney and I jumped across the pond for our 21st birthdays for some celebratory fun in the great UK. We were in awe at what London's street style had to offer. Camden Town served trendy on a platter. We were so inspired by our trip that we decided to start this fashion blog. Fresh and Precious has been an awesome platform for us to share our love of fashion.

Trip to England inspires student fashion bloggers, fashion show

After spending their 2011 spring break in London, Michael Deininger-Bell and Courtney McGovern, students at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, came back to the states hungry to work in the fashion industry.

Inspired by the looks they saw the Londoners sporting, the two decided to start Fresh & Precious (http://freshandprecious.blogspot.com), a fashion blog highlighting fresh, creative, experimental looks with a vintage twist.
“We took what we learned and loved in London and translated that back to Wilmington,” said Deininger-Bell.
Fresh & Precious is photo-heavy, upbeat, and features fashion for both men and women. The blog has garnered more than 35,000 hits in the past few months and the bloggers are celebrating their success with a fashion show to benefit ill and disabled children.
Fresh & Precious will host a fashion show at Sputnik on Thursday, May 3.
The bloggers have partnered with Indo Jax, a local surf school that offers free surf camps to children with serious illnesses or disabilities.
Deininger-Bell said that they’ll continue with the coastal theme by featuring summer fashions for Wilmington’s seaside setting. And expect to see that trademark vintage twist. The fashion show will feature swimwear from local surf shops and looks for day and night from collectors and designers in Wilmington, Raleigh and Charleston.
Deininger-Bell said that while the clothes will appeal to a younger demographic, they are going to feature looks for all body types, not just the traditional model sizes.
Both Deininger-Bell and McGovern are seniors at UNCW. Now in their final semesters, Deininger-Bell is in communication studies and McGovern studies economics.
The two are excited to involve their friends and the Wilmington community in the event, giving everyone a chance to showcase their talents. Young, local photographers, videographers, and hair and makeup stylists will be on hand to help with the show.
Both of the bloggers plan to work in the fashion industry after they graduate in May. “We have a drive for fashion that hasn’t gone out,” said Deininger-Bell. “If anything, it’s gotten more exciting.”
The Fresh & Precious Fashion Show is 7-9 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at Sputnik, 23 N. Front St. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. There will also be a limited number of VIP tickets for $25.
Watch the blog at http://freshandprecious.blogspot.com for details on how to purchase tickets.
